Most alarm systems are a second, separate box in the hallway. SALUS Protect is built on the same Zigbee platform as SALUS Smart Home, so a window sensor can raise an alert and drop the heating, and one app shows you the whole house.

The same sensors work with either system. What changes is who fits it, and what happens when the alarm goes off.

An intruder alert system for homeowners who want to fit it themselves. MERLIN joins the SALUS Controls Smart Home range, so the same app that arms the alarm can also run the heating and the lights.
Coverage
Intrusion is the headline, but most household losses are not burglaries. The SALUS Protect range covers the openings, the movement, the smoke and the water.
Zigbee motion sensors with a 90° detection angle and a pet-immune rating up to 11 kg, so a cat does not become a false alarm. Tamper detection reports interference with the sensor itself.
Slim wireless contacts report an opening to the app, and can trigger automation — opening a window can set the heating back instead of fighting it.
A photoelectric smoke detector with a sound-and-light alarm that also reports over the Zigbee network, so an empty house still tells someone.
Water leak and pipe sensors catch the slow failures that do the most damage — the ones nobody is home to notice.
A local siren plus push and email alerts, with an optional monitoring centre for the moments when nobody is looking at a phone.

How it fits together
The sensors talk to each other and to the gateway over a self-healing Zigbee mesh. Anything you do from outside the house goes through the cloud; anything local still works when the internet does not.

Security, heating, lighting and energy in a single app — the same one that runs the rest of the SALUS Smart Home range.
The SALUS Smart Home app was retired at the end of November 2024 and accounts were migrated to SALUS Premium Lite, with setup guides published in nine languages. The migration is handled for existing users, and the platform is described by SALUS as GDPR compliant.
Push notifications, schedules and remote control all need the gateway online. Detection itself does not — the mesh and the local siren work on their own.
Who makes it
SALUS Protect is the security arm of SALUS Controls, the smart home brand launched in 2000 and headquartered for Europe in Rotherham, South Yorkshire since 2004. SALUS Controls is part of the Computime Group, founded in Hong Kong in 1974 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2006.
That matters for a security product: the sensors, the gateway and the app are developed by the same organisation, rather than assembled from a third-party stack.
