While there are conflicting historical accounts, some point to instances in the past as examples of governments seizing control of guns, with terrible consequences.
|The 1938 German Weapons Act provided that some citizens were required to have a permit to carry a firearm and a separate permit to acquire a firearm. Furthermore, the law restricted ownership of firearms to “…persons whose trustworthiness is not in question and who can show a need for a (gun) permit.” One of the most onerous restrictions forbade Jews from owning or being involved in the manufacture of firearms leaving them helpless to defend themselves once their persecution began. Other examples:Similar situations were reported in Uganda, Guatemala and Cambodia.
Is this the fear behind objections to most forms of gun control? Do you think this is something our Founders had in mind when developing the the 2nd Amendment? Give us your opinion.
